Settling and place

Place lessons include the target surface, the requested position, the handler’s presence and the ending signal. These resources help you read those details in the footage. Practical duration and difficulty belong to the instruction for the individual dog.

The starting question

What am I looking for beyond a dog staying in one spot?

A position, a release signal and signs of settling are different parts of a lesson. Watch how the trainer defines each, and avoid using elapsed time or a still posture as the whole explanation.
