Field Notes is a traceable publishing system. It separates what an owner reported, what the camera shows, what a trainer explicitly taught, what repeats across cases and what an editor infers.

Editorial synthesis
A clearly labeled interpretation that never masquerades as a direct quote or measured outcome.
Unknown or held
Missing identity, privacy risk, transcript conflict or insufficient context stays unpublished.
Rules that govern the public edition
Quotes remain verbatim and verified. Families are never named. Owner exclusions apply across public derivatives. A public YouTube upload is not automatic permission to feature a dog everywhere. Uncertainty is shown instead of filled in. Corrections preserve history.
